I never used to use social media much before I started my newsletter, so it feels forced at times to put myself out there. But I'm starting to get the hang of it. I like the idea of spreading my ideas widely. I think if I can manage to avoid some of the common social media pitfalls, it will feel better.
Writing on the other hand always feels great! Speaking of, your opening paragraph was 🔥🔥!
that's super interesting how you did not use it before the newsletter. I get that though, there are so many pitfalls to avoid, aka the doom scroll sucking you in!! and THANK YOU. that compliment means so much!
Absolutely love this and needed to read it as I set out on my new adventure. Although I love pictures and videos, my heart beats with words to describe the full experience. Thank you for sharing 🤎
Love this, Your carbonated, fizzy descriptions are so apt because I’ve thought of your writing style as very bubbly and musical. And I agree too, take the picture, don’t take the picture, both can be living in the moment in different ways. I usually take about a million hahaha Also that’s fascinating that you developed film! what a cool job, I’m so interested in this.
thank you, Morgan!! a musical writing style ~ i never thought of it like that.
oh my gosh the one-hour photo lab was such a trip. i did a lot more at CVS though - cash register of course, stocking shelves, creating endcaps, sometimes i even worked in the pharmacy....
Your writing is so beautiful and I feel like you have written something here that I’ve always felt in my bones. So honored to connect with you here on Substack. ♥️
I enjoyed this article, and felt like the introduction was so wonderful. I am doing a small project this summer called Writing as Breathing: How Writing Changes Me. If you'd like to check it out and participate in some way, here is a Thread with some of the reflection questions. I'll be highlighting articles and things that relate to this theme. https://susankuenzi.substack.com/p/reflection-questions-for-the-collaborative/comments
Hi Susan, thank you so much for popping in and for reading!! I appreciate you sharing that link, I checked it out and would love to reflect on some of those questions.
You're welcome. Since writing the reflection questions, here's another shorter related thread: https://susankuenzi.substack.com/p/reflections-on-our-trip-up-the-endicott/comments and there's a brief one on how a cucumber inspired me as well. I'd love to hear any of your thoughts. At the end of August I'll be wrapping things up and compiling some of the responses from writers to the reflection questions or sharing related articles. Happy to "meet you" here, Kristen.
So apt especially in the “later” years of parenting. I used to take a gazillion photos a day when my kids were very little- now that I have some teens, I could go for weeks with no photos other than pics of my dinner 🤪. As long as it feels good, all is probably just fine 😎✨

Yeah I've always just been a lurker. I never felt like I had anything to post. Now I can at least write about things relevant to my website.
And of course! it painted such a vivid picture.
This is my favorite post of yours! That introduction! Beautiful.
Courtney, that means so much to me. THANK YOU!
